Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh Screened and Confirmed As Commissioner Designate from N’Ibom
The Associate Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, has scale through the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) screening and confirmed of the 27 Commissioners and Special Adviser nominees sent by His Excellency, Governor Pastor Umo Eno.
Recall that the AKHA had at Tuesday’s Plenary cleared 20 nominees and adjourned to Thursday, February 20, 2025 for conclusion of the exercise with the screening and confirmation of the remaining seven nominees including Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, Barr. Kufre Udosen, General Koko Essien (rtd), Hon. Ubuo Effiong Ubuo, Prof. Ubong Essien, Dr. Anietie Udofia, Elder Paul Bassey, and Hon. Ikoedem Ekong accordingly.
Here is the profile of the nominee Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh (born. January 13, 1982) is a Distinguished scholar and consultant in Military History. An indigene of Ikot Nya in Nsit Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State, he holds a PhD in Military History from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. He is an Associate Professor of Military History at the University of Uyo, where he currently serves as the Acting Head of the Department of History and International Studies (since 2022) and the Deputy Director of the School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (since 2020).
Dr. Umoh holds the distinction of being the first Akwa Ibom indigene to earn a PhD in Military History and rise to the rank of Associate Professor in the discipline in Nigeria. His expertise is widely sought after by several prestigious institutions, including:
