Uyo Residents Applaud Governor Umo Eno for Restoring Order at the Plaza | Plaza Newspaper
Residents of Uyo have expressed joy and applauded His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, for restoring order and enabling free movement at the plaza. A passerby, Mr. Andrew Etim, praised the Governor for taking decisive action.
“I remember that a few years ago, the plaza was a place where we could sit and reflect. Suddenly, we couldn’t find space for our feet anymore—it was completely taken over by traders and miscreants. But today, we are grateful to the Government and UCCDA for a job well done,” he said.
His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, issued a ban on roadside and plaza trading during the February edition of the state’s monthly sanitation exercise. As a result, the traders relocated to the Flea Market by the plaza.
Today, the Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Hon. Anietie Eka, and his team visited the plaza and other key locations to monitor compliance. Eka emphasized that the Governor is committed to restoring the beauty and aesthetics of the city center, with major renovations already underway.
“The Governor has promised to give us a new plaza that we will all be proud of in two months. I urge you all to cooperate with the Government. This place will be transformed into a befitting city center,” he added.
While commending the management of Tantalizers for willingly dismantling an illegal structure at their Nwaniba branch, the City Boss issued a strong warning to those who have built unapproved structures and shanties. He urged them to personally dismantle the structures before the UCCDA enforcement team arrives.
“To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he cautioned.
