“In every democratic society, press plays a pivotal role in exerting massive political and social influence on the affairs of governance” – those were the words of the Chairman, Forum of Social Media Administrators and Influencers (FOSMAI), Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Bassey Samuel Jnr.

Commending His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno PhD for hosting NUJ-Media Briefing to mark the third year anniversary of his administration, Comrade Samuel said, carrying the press along in his administration was a demonstration of unwavering commitment to serving the Akwa Ibom people.

According to Comrade Bassey Samuel Jnr, issues touching a broad spectrum of development were discussed, as Governor Umo Eno spoke on policies, programmes, and projects implemented under his administration. “Every project mentioned by his Excellency were all that were actually inspected and monitored by Governor himself, not briefed by his lieutenants – Projects Monitoring Team”.

“it was an avenue where the roles of media were highlighted in democratic governance, and as well, provided a platform for accountability”, Chairman, Forum of Social Media Administrators and Influencers has said. Stressing how the media chat has informed Akwa Ibom citizenry on the programmes of the government, and also gave them an opportunity to assess the programmes and projects of this administration.

“Governor Umo Eno’s accomplishments within his three years in office did not only speak volume, but showed Governor Umo Eno’s level of focus and commitment to service delivery. It shows his deep understanding of the yearnings of Akwa Ibom people’, Comrade Bassey maintained.

Accordingly, the Chairman of Forum of Social Media Administrators and Influencers (FOSMAI) has hailed Governor Umo Eno over his administration’s determination to upgrade the information mechanism of the State Government,

He recalled on the deal, the Governor, has sealed with the Media Guru Consultant, LLC, Dubai, to transform the State-owned Broadcasting Corporation, AKBC, to a world-class broadcasting station.

“The deal covered provision of consultancy, design, procurement and installation of broadcast equipment”, Comrade Bassey said. Continuing, Chairman, FOSMAI stressed that, it is in fulfillment of His Excellency earlier promise to upgrade AKBC. He envisioned how the project will placed AKBC on a pedestal of quality broadcasting services delivery with global standard, to project Akwa Ibom to the world.

The Chairman also spoke about power, and its significance to modern economy, taking cognizance of the recent inauguration Of Electricity Regulatory Commission in the state, saying electricity is fundamental and it is an engine that powers modern economy, drive innovation, productivity and create jobs.

He hailed Governor Umo Eno for making Akwa Ibom State, a destination for investment, stressing that investors who look for where there is stable and affordable power supply to power their businesses, will now see Akwa Ibom attractive, because their costs of production will be considerably reduced.

“The initiative will drive Akwa Ibom towards modern economy, where constant electricity will become a tool for economic development, industrial revolution and improved standard of living for Akwa Ibom citizenry and its residents”, the Chairman said.

“Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has continued to keep abreast with his ARISE Agenda to transform Akwa Ibom through delivering projects of global standard to the people of Akwa Ibom. He is pushing for quality and timely delivery of these projects through repeated unscheduled inspection tours to various project sites.

“One of such projects is the Uyo City tourism ecosystem projects, comprising the 5,000-capacity International Convention Centre, the 200-room Ibom Hotel, ARISE Shopping City, Amusement park, and others. The entire set of infrastructural projects in Uyo City is tailored towards transforming Akwa Ibom tourism sector for the economic benefit of Akwa Ibom people.

Reflecting on His Excellency ‘s passion on quality service delivery, Comrade Samuel Bassey quoted Governor Umo Eno as saying thus; “it is the Akwa Ibom people that drive our passion for quality service delivery. They voted for us to work, and we will continue to work for them. This is part of the responsibilities of the EXCO – to inspect and monitor projects. It is simply putting money where your mouth is. We are making sure the reports we are getting align with what is on ground,” Comrade Bassey has quoted.

In the area of waste management, Comrade Samuel Bassey also said that, the Governor has declared a state of emergency on waste management, and has invested heavily in the “Waste-to-Wealth” initiative, and modern environmental infrastructure. “His administration”, according to the Chairman, Forum of Social Media Administrators and Influencers, has procured state-of-the-art equipment, reclaimed major dumpsites for housing, and launched investor campaigns to build a circular economy in the state”.

He said, His Excellency’s investments are strategic. While recounting major accomplishments in this area, Comrade Bassey listed the following: procurement of modern sanitation equipment to maintain Uyo and the state at large as a “clean and green” city. The administration has supplied the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) with upgraded operational tools, including; waste compactors; garbage trucks; recycling bins and specialized containers. The administration has also increased deployment of environment marshals to patrol against indiscriminate dumping and littering.

“Waste-to-Wealth and Recycling Initiatives is to turn everyday refuse into economic assets, for the purpose of driving the state toward a zero-waste, circular economy,; this initiative is generating revenue for the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR); and will create green jobs for youths in the recycling value chain by converting plastics and non-biodegradables into useful raw materials.

“Sand-filling and reclaiming over 100 hectares at the former Uyo village dumpsite is another laudable accomplishment in this area, transforming the massive space into a modern development zone that will feature about 150 middle-income housing units to tackle housing shortages; a planned “creative village”, expected to stimulate socio-economic activity; as well as proper water channeling to proactively address erosion.

“Community compliance and enforcement, initiated by His Excellency will complement the financial investments. More so, the Governor has instituted policies that will hold residents and local government areas accountable. The Governor has also hosted awards to recognize and reward the cleanest local government area (LGA) in the state, including, utilizing Environmental Courts and the Ibom Community Watch to prosecute violators of environmental sanitation laws”.

All of the above therefore, are testament to Governor Umo Eno’s massive investment to better the lots of Akwa Ibom citizenry, and there is no doubt that as we prepare for the elections next year, Akwa Ibom people have once again been taken into a journey of three fruitful years of superlative performance by His Excellency, as he has undoubtedly convinced the teeming voter population of the need for continuity of the present administration. An Administration anchored by the Arise Agenda which will transform into the Arise 2.0 by 2027.
